ROSE GARDENS OF IRELAND
Day One; Arrival in Dublin On arrival at Dublin Airport, meet your tour manager and transfer to your hotel in the city centre. En route, enjoy a sightseeing tour which will show you the highlights; Trinity College, The Book of Kells, O’Connell Street and Phoenix Park. Later, there will be free time for you to shop or just relax and enjoy this lovely city, before tonight’s Welcome Dinner.
Day Two; Dublin Gardens Today’s tour of Dublin includes a visit to a private garden in the city itself, and a stroll around Rathmichael, a cheerful cottage-style garden with the emphasis on old roses, often grown in unusual ways. Return to your Dublin hotel for overnight.
Day Three; County Meath A full-day visit into the countryside, to the gardens at Butterstream and Beech Park. Butterstream is known as the Sissinghurst of Ireland, and is a series of gardens within a garden, and a wonderful source of inspiration for gardeners of all interests. Beech Park’s famous walled garden includes a stunning double herbaceous border and is a plantsman’s paradise, rated as one of the very best gardens in the British Isles. Later, visit Carrigglass Manor en route back to your hotel. Carrigglass contains a delightful collection of old roses and is a relatively young garden, created by the current owner to delight flower and rose lovers.
Day Four; County Wicklow Enjoy a tour of private gardens today. All have stunning roses and a magnificent collection of other plants, providing interest to all. Close by is contrasting Powerscourt, where a magnificent formal garden lies in a stunning setting. Continue to your Country House Hotel in the heart of County Wicklow for a delicious dinner.
Day Five; The Garden of Ireland County Wicklow is known as the Garden of Ireland for its wonderful flowers and plants. Today’s tour will include several private gardens and other specialised visits connected with the Wicklow Gardens Festival. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.
Day Six; Glories of the South Drive southwards to Waterford this morning, to see a demonstration of Irish crystal in the making. Visit several private gardens, all with lovely collections of old and modern roses. Later, travel on to your South coast hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day Seven; County Cork Drive to Anne’s Grove this morning, and visit one of the most delightful gardens in Ireland, a Robinsonian garden which is really three in one; the walled garden, the glen and the riverside garden.This is really a place for daydreams as you stroll along tranquil wooded paths. At Creagh, a varied garden sits tranquilly on a wooded estuary surrounded by the sea, and every turn of the path leads to new delights. Part of the garden was inspired by a French Impressionist painting, and a rose walk is a particularly delightful feature. Not far away, Bantry House is surrounded by a splendid garden with fabulous views across the bay. The parterre is the oldest part of the garden, and is filled with a profusion of old-fashioned roses. Time to stroll and enjoy before returning to your South Coast hotel for dinner
Day Eight; Departure Join your private driver-guide for the last time on your transfer to Dublin, Shannon or Cork Airport this morning.
